No More Tears

The Connecticut killings of twenty children and six adults leave us with profound grief, disbelief, and many whys.

From what we can tell, every teacher did exactly the right thing to try to protect the children in her care, some giving their lives to do so. It looks like the school had proper security in place. We’re left wondering how this could happen and grieving over so many lives lost . . . at Christmas.

This morning, I was reading Revelation 7:17. This chapter is talking about the Tribulation saints—those saved during those horrible times, some giving their lives for their belief in Jesus. The Bible says,
For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them,
and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters:
and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

I know many of you are praying for the families who lost a mother, wife, or a little child. We are sure these beautiful little children, murdered by a deranged person, are in heaven with Jesus. We pray that their parents would be comforted by the Lord, that they would recognize Jesus in simple faith, and that they will be reunited with their children in heaven. Only the Lamb can wipe away all tears.

My friend Johanna wrote a poignant piece on her blog “My Home Tableau.” She is a young mother of three small children and has felt this tragedy acutely.

On Facebook, another young friend, a single man named David wrote: “He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord -- Ps. 33:5. I was horrified last night with the news from Connecticut. The actions of that man rival the atrocities committed by the Canaanites of the Promised Land. This is honestly one of the few times I've felt so unreservedly grateful for God's complete justice. But the picture in my mind is ultimately one of joy. I see a loving welcome as Jesus embraces each child as he arrives home. For that child, there is no more fear; only a loving Savior who wipes every tear. I pray for the families of those affected by this man's sin. God alone brings comfort and peace.”

May the Lord wipe away all tears.
